<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in">Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick, about 20 minutes.</li>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in">In a bowl, beat egg whites until frothy, and cream of tartar and beat until stiff.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in">Gradually add sugar and beat until meringue is glossy and stiff.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in">Spread meringue on cooled pie filling, sealing meringue to edge of crust to prevent shrinking.</li>
